Thanks for this.  I am assuming that after this weekend we will get a
few months of everything working fine because we will be creating the
event in the same 'time zone' as the event itself.

On your last point, there is a Java client side application called
GCalSync, but I have never been able to get it to work properly, so do
not know how it handles the DST issue.
