to clarify... you don't need to have "service" insomuch as you pay for
a data plan.  i was confused about this too. i don't pay for any kind
of data plan and i'm still able to use goosync.  i just pay per kb
instead of on a monthly plan.

your phone just needs to have the ability to establish the IP
connection and needs to be properly configured to do so.
