Hi, It took me a while to figure out how to enter the square brackets on the Treo as well.
The trick is to first enter an open round bracket, (, and then press the Alt key until the square bracket appears. You can then do the same for the closing round bracket to obtain the closing square bracket. Hope this helps you to sort your events into your other calendars.
