Aha!

Yep, that was the problem. I didn't delete and re-send on the goosync
website (though my data path was entered as "calendar on the phone,"
but the error message said "datebook" anyway).

So if anyone in the future has the issue, here is what happened to
me:

Carrier- T-mobile (with $5.99 t-zones plan)

Old Razr V3r broke, they sent me a new one

Set up goosync the same way on new phone I did on old phone (The way
to do that for t-mobile US subscribers is google for a download of a
program called P2Ktools, plug in your phone, click on the button in
the upper left of P2Ktools called "SEEM editor." Then click the "load
from phone" button. A screen of gibberish shows up. Go down to row 60,
and go right over to column 02. When you click on that box, look at
the bottom of the screen where there are seven check boxes (numbered
1-7) and put a check mark in the box #1. Save this to the phone. Then
download a new mma_ucp file from (google around for a current one or
figure out how to hack it) and upload it to your phone's a/mobile/
system folder. Restart your phone so the files load).

Tried to sync, and got a "Data not found: datebook" error (you may
experience different wording depending on your phone's software).

Proceeded to make several hundred changes and generally mess up phone
multiple times.

Proceeded to wish I followed my own advice and backed up phone files
before making moronic changes.

Eventually drank enough coffee that phone miraculously fixed itself.
Started over from scratch.

Repeated all steps, and then asked for help here.

Got help in about 10 minutes, proceeded to be shocked at how fast that
was.

Logged in to goosync.com, deleted my device, re-installed same device,
tried to sync

It worked, and I got the usual ton of reminders for events from the
last seven days. Once those were cleared out, did happy dance in
living room while wearing bathrobe.

Got strange looks from cat.
