This is a known problem with Ubuntu 8.04.1, though Ubuntu doesn't plan on doing anything about it. The fix is very simple: either downgrade or upgrade network manager (preferably upgrade, as 0.7 is very good). However, in practice, the user cannot easily do this himself, and it is better done by the gOS team. :)
