Yes, AFAIK gOS will only work on the x86 architecture. gOS is based on Ubuntu, which fully supports the openSPARC initiative: http://www.ubuntu.com/news/sunfire so perhaps gOS will in time support SPARC architecture. As Wikipedia said, "Versions of Ubuntu up to 7.10 have been ported to the PS3 platform. The installer cannot run in Live mode when running in 480i or 480p video resolutions, but it offers an alternative installer (text-based) that will install a fully functional Ubuntu operating system." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_for_PlayStation_3#Distributions) So one alternative to getting gOS is to get Ubuntu 7.10 and install it. However, Sony originally promised that the PS3 would come with Linux pre-installed, but broke its promise when the PS3 was issued. They didn't promise to install Google Desktop and Gears, though, so if you complain to Sony about the lack of Linux, you still might not get the eye candy you want. But maybe the way to get MOST of you want while you're waiting is to install Ubuntu.... Or buy a proper desktop PC...(even second hand on eBay)... -- Graham Todd --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "gOS Linux" group.
