You run the command: lspci
and that should also tell you what you have, most cards are supported
nowadays, ecept for unusual ones.
For example in my lspci I got a line like this towards the end:

02:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82562EZ 10/100 Ethernet
Controller (rev 01)
