First of all, I would like to point out that I really enjoy using gOS over other Linux distributions, and I am quite pleased in the general direction in which this distribution is heading. But recently I have noticed some prevalent bugs that have slowed down my productivity. I am using gOS Space.
-One of the many problems that I have is problems with Compiz, and window effects. I have an Emachines and a geforce 4 Nvidia graphics card. I am currently using the corresponding restricted driver. One very peculiar thing though, when I initially installed the restricted driver, the screen resolution was 800x600. After the installation, the window affects seemed to work fine. Of course though, I changed the resolution to 1024x786 so i could view things better. After logging out and back in, The affects did not work anymore. I tried enabling desktop effects, but it replied that desktop effects cannot be used. I believe I have the required files, and I enabled several options on the compiz configuration menu to no avail. -The advant dock is rather annoying, and when I open firefox and minimize it, the graffiti icon acts as the minimized firefox window but with the graffiti icon. very odd. I also dislike the buggy performance of the dock. Is there any way to replace it with something else more effective? also due to my graphics issues the dock effects do not function properly. -Also, gOS does not detect when I insert a usb stick drive, it says that there is nothing to mount. -This is rather odd, but would any one know how to change the color of the main gos menu from green to another color? I configured everything else to my tastes, but i can't seem to change the appearance of the main menu from green. Once again, i am not whining of complaining, as I really love the functionality and ease of use(I am new to linux) Over other distros. Since the operating system is fairly young, I do expect several bugs, but I am interested if anyone has the same bugs as I do. One final question. Should I switch to gOS gadgets? I mostly use the internet, but i do play games, and frequently use music and writingt software, and since gos says that gadgets is more of a netbook computer, would gadgets solve my issues without laking functionality since i am using a full size desktop? What are the differences of space and gadgets in terms of bug fixes, performance, and functionality?
