I had the same problem. I found that you first have to change permissions to access the network manager.
Click on System Preferences-->Administration-->Authorizations Add user(yourself) to Manage system configuration then close Authorizations. Try editing network again. This is probably not the best or most secure way to do it but it worked for me. Hope this helps.
