.When I say no mouse I am no 100% accurate. It is weird. I can see that the mouse is moving around via highlights of bars and choices.
I can find its location y tapping the CTRL key but the pointer itself cn't be seen. Its like the pointer is working but hidden under some layer that I dont understand. I can move the mouse to an area I ned to click ( I see the bar or () highlight. Then I click the mouse and the item lauunches or close but I never see the mouse. I tried another install of Gadgets or Space and I saw a 1/2 square that stayed in the middle of the screen with the same or similar description above. I wanted to keep the newer software for it had wine and also had a package installer. The gOS that came with the Sylvania (same as the everex and 6 other brands from what I can tell) Mine has a 30 meg h drive Comp Usa has an everex with a 60 gig drive and windows on it. I saw a youtube video that stated this Sykvania Netbook hauls buggy opoening web pages with XP (sp3) installed. I wonder how true that is. I saw a side by side youtube of a Asus EEE and a Sylvania Netbook and the EEE loaded pages much faster and booted quicker. I guess the memory cost more since the Surf comes with 2/4/8 etc sd drives. Its hard to imagine that SD memory cost more per gig than a hard disk. Personally I feel its just faster so they can get more bucks per G from it. Correct me if i am wrong. Also I have a new Panasonic 50" TV (a 720p model) but will handle 1080p/60 input. I was able to drop resoluion to 600x400 or similar size (not the default size) and then I noticed my 25 foot DVI to HDMI cable in the 50" Panasonic HD TV would show 1/2 way through the boot process. I suppose it is in a low mode until some driver loads then it goes into a mode that my panasonic can n0t handle or the dvi port dosn't show. One time with the 3 Ubuntu flavors I was laying with I got the 50" TV to show "after" a full boot but I never could get my Sylvania to show videop on both at same time. I am giving up on dvi My Sylvania keeps dropping Wifi conections after about 5 minutes of use, I have 5 or 6 routers at the house (all on different channels) 2 I offer free web access via sputnik portal for neigbors. 1 Linksys G with dd-wrt G and a Trendnet N so my neigbors will have less compatability isssues I (They are open and no security other than what little sputnik wifi spot offers. I do the free thing for my neigbors. Anyway I have a Netgear N and a Linksys wrt54g also with dd-wrt set up for me with WPA and TKIP with my pass phrase. and lastly one Linksys that has 2 phone ports in it. I used some software to change the linux software in it that allowed me to get rid of Vonage and type in any provider I wanted so I have it on callcentric.com. The phone always works, instant dial tone. I am using PPOE on only 2 routers with same isp provider the 3 (4 including the NAS -Multimedia server) Dlink routers that are password protected are piggybacked. Both the main Linksys wrt54g log in with ppoe with the 4 logging in on one side of an unmanaged Dlink switch and the other 2 FREE open access routerss (also biggy back) logging in through the same Dlink 5 port switch. Then I have a signle rj45 go to my fiber optic jack. I am amazed my isp allws me to effectivly login twice at the same time using two ip addresses plus my brother uses my user nd pass to do dial up all day. Anyway I am getting of th4 subject. My Acer laptop has no problem downloading a 2 to 5 gig file from limeware for example but thiss Sylvania Netbook (Like the Everex only the mouse is in a different place and mine came with 1 gig of ram. When I first boot my Sylvania with latch right onto my password wpa protected router. If I click the two computer net icon I will see all 5/6 of my routers (The NAS one I only run to my 50" tv so I cn use it as a multimedia server plus it logs into 24 unlimited music so nobody real uses it unless once in a while I might use it as an access point just to mke ure it is up, Plus I like to listen to some mp3's from my acer once in a blue moon without turning on the 50". I never have no drops. Hek the routers are only 30 maybe 40 feet away from my chair where I use both laptops. I truly like this little gOS setup. I am worried if I take it back they want have any more for and exchange. Tiger doesnt give refunds I paid 299 for it. No great price. bUT they sell fast. Know I cn run a rj45 wire to any of the routers to the Sylvania and we for exampl I just downloaded eee8.04 /gOS Space / gOS Gadgets/ gos sylv 8.04 / super grub disk (helps install to a usb drive) in other words over 4 gigs of files and posting and reading sites via firefox and no problems at all B U T;;;; When I use WiFi even with 3 different gOS systems I will see all 5 or 6 of my wifi points avaiable. It dont matter if i latch onto an open or wpa one within 5 minutes or about 5 megs of dloads It will appear as if I sill have acces. I will notice that firefox pages stop loading then I will click on the icon to see the wifi connections and all that will be shown is the connection i started with and a good signal no less than 70 but U cnt log back in even if i try to manaul connect. Then I will notice that the signal that remained is also gone. I can boot my laptop and they are all there and obtainable. I am hopping that there might be some rwin like number I that I can edit in a ini page of sorts that might keep a slightly defective wifi board. I hope someone out there has suggestions. If you do please advise. I truly like this little lapbox.or netbook. It can't be getting hot and breking down cause all I have to do is a reboot and bingo all routers appear with their signals and i log right in wpa or open. I hope it aint so defective I have to bring it back. I am on the 20th or 21st day out of 30 day limit for exchange. I sure would appreciate some help. I can live without the DVI. Oh yes I forgot to mention I pulled my title bar to the top and when I had the OS that allowed it to show on the 50" The title bar was at the top but I could only see 1/2 of the title bar on tv but all of it on netbook when I hit funtion and F3 thats no big deal I just need to drag the bar to the let or bottom. Man Its unreal how clear the dvi is on my 50" Even at 720P I am impressed that this little thing does so well. I just wish the AVi's were not jerky afer I download them from limeware. Youtube is tollerable but again I hear that goes away if you put XP as long as you have 1 gig of ram, OK Giys thans in advance for any tips.
