Well if you download the iso you can do it without a CD outlined here: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2008/03/13/usb-gos-install-from-windows/ I have done this method and can confirm it works.
If you borrowed a live CD from a friend or deleted the soft copy etc. here is a method that uses the live CD to put it on a Thumb drive: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2008/05/27/usb-gos-persistent-install-from-live-cd/ I am not aware how well this method works.
