When you boot and are presented with the login screen there are two options you can choose to get a terminal session, either click on the "session button", then choose "Failsafe terminal", but be prepared for a terminal with very small letters if you have a higher screen resolution than 640x480
Alternatively simply press Ctrl-Alt-F2 and you will be switched to a text screen (a text mode "run level" session) in which the command line shell runs. In both case you first need to enter your name and password. after that you get a prompt indicating you are in the home page. type CD .. and press [enter] to go up one level in the directory tree, now type LS and press [enter] to call up a directory (you can also use DIR instead of LS, but LS will use colour coded text to indicate the nature of the listed files), you will see just one entry, which is the name of the "home-directory", it should be the new name your friend gave the home directory. You can use the MV command to rename the directory back to what it originally was, for more infor about MV, read here: http://www.liamdelahunty.com/tips/linux_rename_directory.php after you are ready you can exit the command shell, on the "failsafe terminal" just type "exit" and press [enter], on the "run level screen" you can go back to the x-windows session by pressing Ctrl-Alt- F7 Good luck.
