You won't be able to get updates that are not in the repositories by
this method. You can check to see what is available by looking at
synaptic: as far as Open Office is concerned, the latest version
available is 2.4.1.

If you want a package or a package version that is not in the
repositories in /etc/apt/sources.list, its a good idea to see if there
is a Debian package available, and then install that.  Or you could add
the repository if you know how...but this can be dangerous.

However, its a matter of downloading it from the website concerned if
nothing is available. If you have a .deb file available, so much the
better, but otherwise you'll probably have to compile it yourself.
