To gain a good insight in what WINE is and can do visit the "WINE headquarter" at http://www.winehq.org/ you can also find information on which application programs run, and which ones won't.
In principle even an anti virus program can run on WINE, for example Kaspersky runs very well, see ( http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=6621 ) but note that any WINE application, including an anti-virus program can only see the "virtual windows surrounding", so it is oblivious of the fact that there is a Linux OS it is running on, it is running in a "sandbox", see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandbox_(computer_security) But if you are stupid enough to try, (as Wine HQ warns against installing it, see http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=8574 ) if you did manage to install "Anti Virus 2009" on WINE, it could only infect WINE, not Linux itself. If you just run Firefox on Linux, then there is no need to be afraid of Anti Virus 2009 at all, as it cannot run on Linux (without WINE).
