wellllll... that's a bit of a tricky problem. Usually i'd say "just
install them", but you don't have "Package manager". Then i'd say
"just use the terminal", but you don't have a terminal.

So let's try this:

1) boot your computer
2) connect to the internet
3) hit "Ctrl+Alt+F1", you should then go to a virtual console
(basically a full screen terminal window, but you will have to log in
again with your username and password)

Once you are there, type:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

you will be asked to enter your password (again), and then your
computer should go look for updates on the internet. If the apps you
mention are not installed, the system should see this and prompt you
to install them (as they are part of the "basic" install)

It's worth a try, but already i find it strange that you don't have
these apps. Which CD did you use? Where di you download it from? Did
you choose any strange options when installing?
