I installed gOS Gadgets last night. After completing all of the updates, I continued to do a distribution upgrade to 8.10. The upgrade went relatively smoothly, but I have a few issues.
1. After the upgrade, I no longer see the gOS bootsplash. When booting, I get a verbose text output, and the the X server starts and loads gdm. 2. I can't for the life of me get the desktop effects to work (compiz- fusion). I noticed that none of the packages were installed, so I installed the following packages: compiz-core compiz-plugins compiz-fusion-plugins-extra compiz-wrapper libdecoration python-compizconfig compizconfig-settings-manager However, I can't enable desktop effects even after installing these. Am I missing a driver? With other Ubuntu installs (and with other distros), I have effects from the first boot. I assume this has something to do with my Intel chip. 3. After the upgrade, my optical discs won't mount at boot. Once logged onto the desktop, I receive this error: Cannot mount the CD: "DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken."
