Yes, you can install Ubuntu Intreid Ibex and things will mostly
work :) You'll then have to download the latest Via graphics drivers
to get 3D acceleration to work which is also true of gOS 3.0. I also
had to recompile alsa to get the headphone jack to work. All in all
Ubuntu doesn't handle this netbook terribly well.

I should point out that the upgraded version of gOS 3.0 available from
Sylvania corrects a lot of problems in 2.92 (a beta) which is
installed by default. The Sylvania gOS 3.0 iso is at:
http://markezina.com/SYLVANIA/drivers/gos-sylv-804-20080723.iso

I've had the best results with Vector Linux 6.0 rc1. X configuration
didn't come out right and I ended up with an ugly 640x480 resolution.
I then copied the xorg.conf file from gOS 3.0 to /etc/X11/xorg.conf in
my Vector installation and changed the video driver from via to
openchrome. Then everything worked including 3D acceleration.

Another known issue on gOS is CPU frequency scaling. gOS doesn't
handle it without a kernel patch (backported from a newer kernel) and
the g is permanently stuck at half speed (600 MHz). With Vector it
works correctly out of the box and there is even a GUI tool (vcpufreq)
to set your CPU parameters. Very nice.

If you go with gOS (either 2.92 or 3.0) you will still need the latest
Via video drivers.

HTH,
CMM
