hmm. you are comparing a product of a capitalistically based company with a product created by an (open source) movement. If Windows 7 (or a successor) fails, in theory the company behind it can go bankrupt. If however (one of the many) Linux distributions is a relative failure, the Linux community does not care, they will still go on improving Linux, they do not need any "cash flow". Linux will stay as long as there are people interested in it, for whatever reason.
So no "heat to be felt" here, its not a battle (from Linux users point of view).
