Hi all (especially Jeff !)

As someone who has just recently added a list to Mail Archive, I'm
particularly concerned by the fact that though there are certain anti-spam
measures for mail From: headers, the archive doesn't attempt to obfuscate
e-mail addreses of people who have addresses included within the BODY of the
message.

e.g. on this Gossip list, the following is plainly visible.

--------8<----- snip -----8<--------

So Jeff's full e-mail address will still be visible to anyone who wants to
harvest it from the list by looking for person@domain type addresses (made
easier because they're generally in quotes, < > or similar delimiters, or
have a usual "On xxx, someone wrote:" type lead-in). With a big enough
archive to go back on, and assuming that they just harvest the lot and there
are plenty of replies to be seen (such as the one I've quoted), it's
possible that a cleverly crafted spambot will eventually (and quite easily)
capture the e-mail addresses of nearly everyone who subscribes to the list
and contributes (rather than "lurks).

Comments ? Suggestions ? Possible change request (Jeff ?) ??

Regards

Jason Armistead
