Hi Kir,

I am honored to receive such close attention by the aspseek team! The
big advantage of aspseek over htdig from my perspective is the ability
to handle languages with multi-byte charactersets, like Chinese. This
limitation in ht://dig really bugs me, and holds mail-archive back
from world domination.

On the other hand, it's very hard to displace a reasonably good
existing system even if the new technology is better. I know this all
too well, from working in a research lab.

I'll tell you what - when ht://dig 3.2 comes out, I will compare it
closely with aspseek and upgrade to whichever one makes more sense for
mail-archive. The things that matter most to mail-archive are
administrative simplicity, reliability, and resources consumed during
local file indexing (both time and space).

End users probably care most about the quality of search
results. However, for mail-archive, while end users are welcome to
speak up, many times their desires can be secondary. Hobbies are so
much more fun than businesses. :)

Cheers,
Jeff
