I just don't see compute resources being available to reprocess the May 2003 archives. Thus my best guess is May 2003 will be the "lost month". A black mark in Mail-Archive's otherwise pretty good 5 year track record.
The crash itself appears to have been caused by extreme heat buildup on the disk drives, which basically spend 100% of their time doing seeks. It's possible that modern high density drives are more susceptable to heat problems than their forebearers. In response, I've added a number of additional cooling fans to address this problem (including one more on Thursday). In other news, performance really has been excellent as of lately (there are something like 120 messages in the processing queue right now, which is practically NOTHING!) and I have high hopes Mail-Archive can run in a hands off fashion for the next year or so.
