Ranking planet stuff for tech content via reddit has been working out
awesomely: http://www.reddit.com/r/MozillaTech/ collaborative voting
might be a good thing.
However, I'd like to stay on topic of updating planet feeds. Lets fix
the approval/addition process, discussing planet future is out of
scope for solving this particular problem.

Hi,
Could we know, technically, what the process to add a feed to planet is
today?
I manage the French community planet, it's of course a much smaller
planet with maybe 40 blogs syndicated and the process for us so far has
been "send an email to our contact@ address or ping pascal", I look at
the blog and maybe ask the blogger for a mozilla specific feed, then I
add it to the planet via a small web UI. It doesn't take more than 5mn
to do it, it could be a couple of days if I ask the blogger to provide
me a specific rss/atom feed with a mozilla tag because he blogs about
more than Mozilla topics.
I can understand that a blog can be problematic and needs discussion and
thefore delays before being added, but technical blogs shouldn't cause a
problem, so what is the thing that takes time to get a feed included
into the Planet? I also saw blogs added to the planet for which the bug
was created more recently than your bug I think.
In summary, do we know where the bottleneck is? Is adding the feed
technically painful? Is the person/people in charge of responding to
such requests not receiveing their bugmail (maybe because they disabled
email noifications in their preferences)? Do we know who the approvers
are and the people that actually add the feeds into the system? Are they
different people and if so do they talk to each other or meet on IRC?
Automatically adding feeds could be a solution but it also feels like a
workaround and not a real fix :). I have the gut feeling that the planet
approval process just needs new blood and that's a task where volunteers
could step in easily.
Regards
Pascal
