It didn't make it into the townhall, so I wanted to start this discussion here.
In the IRC backchannel, a lot of people felt the right tactic to handle the current issue is to tell our story, help people understand Mozilla, but in the way we've always succeeded - grassroots, real people, sharing their stories in their own words. We have hundreds of Reps, and many more volunteers who could be mobilized to help with this, if we could just get some leadership, organization and inclusion into these processes. One easy idea would be to have a monthly Tumblr with a theme, asking for Mozillians to tell their stories on that theme. Another is simply to make sure to share out messaging and news with the Reps-General and other volunteer heavy communication channels. Though remember that volunteer involvement isn't just localizing and sharing messages. There need to be channels for volunteers to be involved in building the messaging, or remixing the messaging. We also have to be less afraid of working on our messaging in the open. I think the current events help reinforce that. Working in the open, and being inclusive is our strength. Yes, it comes with its own pitfalls, but Mozilla is trying to prove that those pitfalls can be managed, and it's worth it. I call out Reps specifically because we are already organized, have signed NDAs and are hooked in to our local communities, and so many more volunteers. A first step can simply be emailing the reps-general list. It's also part of Reps, mandate, to help share Mozilla, but we can't do that if teams aren't making sure we're informed and included. _______________________________________________ governance mailing list [email protected] https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/governance
