John,
Fortunately, you are wrong, though I can understand how you got that
impression from the slanted media coverage. You would not be barred
from such a position. There are a number of devout Christians, both
Catholic and not, at Mozilla.
If you are interested in their perspectives on what has been going on,
you may want to read
<http://robert.ocallahan.org/2014/04/responsible-self-censorship.html>
or <http://blog.gerv.net/2014/04/your-ire-is-misdirected/>. While I
believe neither of them is Catholic, they are most definitely followers
of Christ.
I will not use any Mozilla product again until the position of this company
permits the above to hold a place of employment and still practice
freedom-of-religion, freedom-of-conscience and freedom-of-speech.
I hope that reading the above will help alleviate your concerns about
that. The author of the second blog post above is also on the record as
being willing to discuss the issues with anyone who is interested in his
perspective on the matter. See http://blog.gerv.net/2014/04/recent-events/
The only other thing I would like you to consider is
https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2014/04/05/faq-on-ceo-resignation/ and its
comments about why Brendan resigned.
In effect, to take employment with Mozilla I would have to renounce my
Faith in Christ and the tenets of my Catholic religion.
I don't believe this is the case at all. It's certainly not the case
for the multiple Catholics I'm aware of who work at Mozilla.
Again, I understand that the presentation of this situation in the press
does not match either what I'm writing or the above blog posts. You
will obviously have to choose whether to trust us or media outlets
looking to stir up controversy so they can get page views. :)
