I do expect to leverage modifiers, which first appeared in i2b2 v1.6. (Adding columns/attributes to the dimensions such as the patient dimension is part of the documented way of using i2b2, meanwhile.)
I'm not familiar with the new features in 1.7 (aside from postgres support). I don't expect to need any of them. While it's possible that we'll find it cost-effective to deviate from the out-of-the-box i2b2 model, I don't expect to. I expect our work to be orthogonal to i2b2 software updates. as to PCORI vs GPC scope, I'll address that separately. The differences between slide 2 and actual i2b2 are not intended to be significant; they're just an artifact of using a diagram from the JAMIA 2010 paper<http://jamia.bmj.com/content/17/2/124.full> on slide 2.
