Hi Chuck,
The SQL that Jeff Klann forwarded from the Coordinating Center had fairly
simple tests of the columns from my cursory glance but a good first step as
it's an example of code from the coordinating center. As JeffK said, they
just got it so I guess we got lucky that SCILHS was very responsive.

Thanks for the update on PopMedNet 5. To quote Kyle:

Hi Chuck,
There is no need to connect the client to a data source at this point, as we
will be using the file distribution request type for initial phase I queries.
With file distribution, we will transfer a SQL program to you through the
PopMedNet system. You will then have to download the program from the DataMart
Client and run it against your data source separately from PopMedNet and the
DataMart Client. The results should then be uploaded back to the Client to
return to the PCORnet DRN.
Once we implement menu-driven functionality, you should be able to connect the
Client to Oracle databases using an ODBC connection. We will be able to provide
more details on this in the coming months.
Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns!

Thanks,
Kyle

That makes it seem we're using the "sending emails" of SQL statements flavor of
PopMedNet which is where I was hoping we could start so that's reassuring.

- We'll be posting those SQL statements for developers and promoting
visibility for PCORnet.

o That then allows everyone to test out as their environments come up.

o That then makes me wonder:

ยง It would be really great if the coordinating center would post the SQL on
the web for everybody, ideally where it's world-wide readable so people can
link to it.

Have you had your coordinating center site visit yet and was it from Duke or
Harvard?

- What did you cover or plan to cover?

Ours is with Harvard and is being scheduled for March 19th and I'd like it to
productive and get clear info from the coordinating center on when they are
targeting due dates for key deliverables that impact our deliverables so we can
provide Maryan an overall sense of timing alignment toward the ultimate goal.
So I'll be drafting agenda thoughts but was thinking it could be useful to
compare with others who've done it or are scheduling it to see if have similar
topics.

Russ

Hi Russ,
Thanks for getting some traction on this issue (and getting some SQL from
Jeff Klann). I wanted to address your "We've instantiated a CDM but don't have
the new popmednet 5 hooked up to it." statement. After we deployed popmednet
5, I exchanged some emails with Kyle (one of the popmednet developers (see
attached)). Based on the email exchange I don't think popmednet 5 is capable
of connecting directly to the CDM back-end at this time.

Chuck

Subject: Sample CDM query

Hi Chuck, Aaron, and Mike,
We're wondering if you had a sql statement that could help us.

We've instantiated a CDM but don't have the new popmednet 5 hooked up to it.
We asked the coordinating center for a sample SQL statement for testing but
haven't received anything.

Do you guys have some real SQL statements from the coordinating center that hit
the actual CDM which you could email us so we could test our CDM instances out
here?
