Thought you all might find this thread interesting and the overall table of counts PCORnet is accumulating.

Great question Tom! I’m going to share with the whole group so you all can see how your responses varied and would skew this data. Here are the different ways you all defined ‘active patients’ that were identified in the LOIs; as you can see, some did not state how they defined it: 1. Encounter Unique PATID, Currently enrolled 2. # of patients with 2 or more clinic notes, or ED/hospital visit in the past 5 years 3. ≥2 visits since January 01, 2009 AND ≥1 visit since January 01, 2013 AND ≥1 recorded diagnosis 4. 2 or more visits in the last 24 months 5. At least 2 encounters in the last 24 months 6. Patients with office visit since 1/1/2012 Also, the information given in the LOIs can’t account for patient overlap/duplication of representation and there were variation in annotations given to the other categories as well. I would love for us to agree on the definitions for all of these categories to the extent possible… Maryan Zirkle MD, MS, MA Program Officer, CER Methods and Infrastructure Program Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) 1828 L Street, NW, 9th Floor, Washington DC 20036 O: 202.827.7735 |C: 202.744.6190 |F: 202.355.9558 [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> | www.pcori.org<http://www.pcori.org/> From: Maryan Zirkle Sent: Monday, March 09, 2015 9:58 PM To: 'Thomas Carton' Subject: RE: Population overview-PCORnet There were a few of you who defined this a bit differently. The insurance data table will take me a bit longer. I’m trying to figure out the best way to represent that.
