I, for one, appreciate the humor and charm of your post. I'm originally from a
small island in the Hudson River: Manhattan
...which is not in Kansas....the island, that is.
Lovely post...good luck with the recruitment.

Dear Colleagues,
In January our campus successfully completed clinical integration between our
previously separate clinic foundations and the university hospital. We are now
recruiting a key informatics leadership position, a Chief Research Informatics
Officer, to lead our campus in realize informatics and EHRs potential for
transforming research and realizing a learning health system; building upon our
CTSA and Greater Plains Collaborative PCORnet efforts and an established Epic
implementation (live since 2007):

I’ve posted the position below which has the detailed job description and link.
Please email me if you or you know of an individual who may be interested in
joining us. I’ll also be at AMIA CRI this month in San Francisco so I can
catch up with people in person.

The campus has really embraced informatics and enterprise analytics
capabilities and we’ve developed a strong team and partnership with the
hospital and clinics. We’re now really poised to have someone come in and lead
our team (adding three more positions) so we can develop and deploy
interventional informatics in the clinical and financial workflows to realize
our full potential.

I would just add in addition to the professional reasons to come to Kansas City…

- It’s a really nice size city with good dining/entertainment/cultural
options. There’s more than BBQ though that in and of itself is pretty amazing.
These places are close to our offices:

http://www.joeskc.com/

- Cost of living is very nice and traffic is decidedly better than
other places I’ve lived and visited. Go to Zillow and compare housing. Gas
was $1.19 South of town over Valentine’s Day weekend. If you are tired on long
commutes, being house poor, but don’t depend on daily inspiration from the
sound of the ocean or gazing at a mountain, KC may be for you. We’ll buy you a
nice photo, an ocean noise maker, and a big crystal if that helps.

- With the different city and counties that come together around the
medical center (at 39th St and State Line Road), you get an interesting mix of
good school options, old historic houses, modern suburbs, downtown lofts all
within an easy commute of the campus. I live a mile away and walk to work.
You want to live with like-minded Blue or Red people? No problem. Want to
see first run Hindi movies like Neeja? AMC theatres (based here) has you
covered.

- The KUMC campus is nice and compact so it’s easy to run into most
everyone and go out to lunch nearby.

- We get all four seasons here and while we do get cold, we also get
nice warm pushes of weather from the south in the winter (was in the 70s here
Saturday).

- Did I mention we won the World Series?
