Yes, the motivation for this and for the payer information is to obtain
proxy variables for socioeconomic status. The original FWHS asked
nothing about SES, and that's important, probably to researchers in most
specialties.
Larry and Anne will probably have better ideas on which census variables
are best indicators of socioeconomic status. All I can think of are
median family income, % below poverty line, median education level
attained, and median number of persons living in household.

but somebody would have to choose exactly which of the hundreds of
income variables from ACS to use, and likewise education, family size,
etc. And we would need a data extraction tool or process; databuilder
assumes the data comes from observation_fact, but that's not the case
in the architecture MU developed.
I'm struggling thru it at KUMC for Next-D. I was supposed to work with
Mei on it this month, but her maternity leave came early, so now the
schedule is somewhat up in the air.
I don't see progress from any other sites. How about UTHSCSA? How
close are you?
Also, is there some particular motivation for this request that you
can share with us?

If it's not too late, I would like to add these questions that came
from the Obesity paper-writing group (v2.0):
1. To do a verbal poll of each site during the call to see if who has
payer data in their i2b2
(Medicare/Medicaid/BCBS/Self-Pay/Commercial/Government/Contract/Other),
and how feasible it would be for each site which does not, to get
it into their i2b2.
2. To find out how close we are to linking median income, education
attained, family size, and poverty rate from the census data to
patients based on their geocodes.
3. How long each site thinks it would take them to pull these data
elements corresponding to the patients for which they originally
submitted databuilder files.
Can that fit on tomorrow's agenda? Thanks.
