Yes i cannot agree more. 512 mb is not enough in a PC.
2048 is nearly the starting point for servers running 2003.

Yes QUALITY being the key word,
HP, DELL, Cisco for the rich, Dlink for the poor.
No-name cheapies are just that, cheap shit. Intel switches do funny things
from new, and the fans die early.

Sorry but sata is for small sites only.
Any more than 10 PC's and sql means scsi.
Sata just can't sustain the throughput required, and the servers just don't
have good responses,
Especially when you want to move huge gobs of data about, like backing up
sql databases before upgrades.
This comes from hard won experience over the last 2 years with dell servers.
And I am comparing server sata raid with server scsi raid here, nothing in
software.
I thought the cost saving with sata raid was worthwhile but a 7.5K server
only becomes a 8.3K server when you add
Scsi. And the difference is amazing !
