Moral of the story, as I have opined on this list in its former
incarnation many times, is always strongly encrypt all patient-related
data on removable media that leave the premises. And never leave your
laptop in the car (unless its hard disc is encrypted).

I wonder if there will be a class action against the company involved?
In the litigious US, I wouldn't be at all surprised.
