For PBS purposes and medicolegally they must see the signature before
dispensing the drug for the first time.

Subject: [GPCG_TALK] Are facsimiles of PBS prescriptions valid?

Dear PBS,

Sometimes I need to send a prescription to a pharmacy or elsewhere. If I
generate a PBS prescription as usual in my computer system and fax it to the
pharmacy or whoever else needs it, is the facsimile sufficient for PBS
purposes, or do I have to post or otherwise convey the original that my
computer printed and that I signed by hand as well?
