Fab! I notice that it uses the Speex codec. About two years ago I used
Speex to (statically, sorry for split infinitive) compress audio files
from a seminar series and it a) worked amazingly well, with very clear
results and b) the resulting files were amazingly small. I suspect that
Speex should prove to be a very bandwidth-efficient codec for VoIP use.

Skype works well (my missus continues to use it to hold interminable
fortnightly family group discussions with her siblings who are scattered
all over the globe), but have always been sligtly troubled by its
entirely proprietary nature. Google Talk is much better in that respect
because it uses open protocols and is open to alternative VoIP clients,
but it has not really caught on. Having a Firefox plug-in which can do
VoIP as readily as Skype with make a big difference, particularly since
it should also interoperate nicely with Google Talk (but not be
dependent on it).
