Hi Tim,
 
The SNOMED implementation will be very unlike a typical IT project. The key issue as I see it will be to develop the expertise required to support and maintain the Australian version - and to manage all the maintenance of the National Extensions (drugs, medical devices etc).
 
This is pretty complex stuff and it is doubtful if - as we begin - Australia has a sufficient reservoir of skills - especially as the same people will soon be in demand by all the vendors who want to offer it in their products.
 
Exciting times if you have skills in these areas.
