This part of the article caught my eye in terms of our discussion about
GP connectivity and AHS. Hunter Urban Division's VPN is likely to be the
first GP connection with this system.
After a low-key go-live in the Hunter last week, the pilot aims to cover 11
hospitals, 9000 clinical users and up to 70,000 enrolled patients by its
completion.
The second phase, involving children 15 and younger, is based on a child health
information network at Westmead.
NSW Health health system performance deputy director-general Professor Katherine McGrath
says it is "incredibly hard to build a technical system that has to interface with
quite a number of different systems within our own area health service, before we even
link up to GPs' software systems".
"So it's sensible to start slowly, test various components, and build over time."
Certainly the NSW Alliance of Divisions of GP is thinking in terms of a
single interface point with NSW Health's system. Now I know why. You may
dial in your own degree of scepticism, as you see fit.
In the meantime the little guys can do whatever they want.
