I like that.
Oliver,
Robert Wood, of NEHTA, spoke fairly coherently about where he/they saw
things going at our state SBO meeting on Managed Health Networks, the
Feds' latest broadband idea involving Divisions. I was impressed, but
its sure going to take some time.
In a real sense, the GP IM&T thing over the past 7 years has been a
catalyst for getting the Feds interested in clinical IT. State-funded
hospitals were moving slowly towards electronic clinical records anyway,
but having GPs mostly computerised gives the government the incentive to
join the dots.
Specialists are an interesting and largely unknown group, as many if not
most have at least two personas. One is as a VMO at a public hospital,
while the other is as a private practitioner seeing patients in his/her
rooms, and maybe also doing procedures at some private hospitals. And
they come in many, many flavours, each with their own college.
Obviously the pathologists and radiologists are right on top of this
stuff, but the rest? I'm not sure anyone has a handle on that yet, least
of all state health departments, or Canberra.
