sector (pathology communications) on it's ear by throwing out existing
practices/technology and forcing GPs, Labs, Vendors etc to do the same work
in a different way (a la IHE document registries or Argus's proposal).
Gavan,
Except for the little matter of who is paying for all that
pathology/radiology messaging and whether they think they can get a
better deal than they currently have. Your argument would support us all
still using Vax VMS or Wang or Solaris/Sparc, except that Intel
architecture was far, far cheaper, and we could all afford it.
Just as Tom tries to belittle Ross and Argus, Intel tries to belittle
AMD, and Microsoft vilifies Linux. The one common denominator is fear of
competition. If there was no fear we wouldn't hear attempts at scorn
from Tom, or stay-with-the-current-vendors arguments from yourself.
I had the experience yesterday of trying to run Cisco's Eastern
Goldfields Regional Reference Site video, an MP4. Windows Media Player
and Quicktime couldn't, nor could DivX, though it claimed MP4
capability. Neither could RealPlayer or Winamp. VideoLAN VLS Media
Player, with its FSF open licensing, could though.
