Microsoft's, the MD3 or Pracsoft 3 installation is like pulling teeth,
but with the now very good support we are getting from HCN we are
getting the installs done well, including two huge conversions over the
weekend. The upgrade on one database of just over 2GB, with minimal
binary data took over 14 hours on a 2GHz+ AMD box running full MSSQL
server.
ManageEzy (Redmap) is terrible but apparently HCN know this and are
planning to replace it. It hard codes internal links and needs to be
manually massaged if you change hostname, volume name or path of the
data. Which means automated backup and restore or a hot spare server is
going to be very difficult to achieve.
Peter,
Back in March Colin Metz from HCN, previously from IBA by the way, was
suggesting that MD2 would be supported indefinitely.
His reply was in response to a question about HCN's previously stated
policy of an 18-month changeover window for all MD users.
If this is, in fact, true, then for many solo GPs staying with MD2 might
make a lot of sense.
