Sure, but the "alternative" model we have just been discussing involves
direct P2P connections - no middleman, no tollbooth. That's the whole
point. The only bits of centralised infrastructure which are required

Once the NEHTA standards are ironed out and the government feels in a mood to fund an implementation of HealthConnect, don't you fully expect that the central repository at Medicare Australia for the summaries will be revived?

In my interpretation of things, the government stepping back hasn't changed this model, and, as the recent changes to the smartcard initiative has amply demonstrated, as soon as serious money gets approved by government the mandarins step in to insure it enhances their empires.

Early iterations of the HealthConnect model had summary data stored at Division level. These ideas are a distant memory, even though we've been made dependent on a separate data-mining exercise, the feasibility and utility of which are still to be demonstrated.
