As far as I know NEHTA does not have compliance standards for Hospital
Clinical Systems as yet, or do you know something I don't know?
True. But NeHTA WILL have Standards wrt clinical terminology (SNOMED),
medicine terminology, healthcare provider identification, individual
healthcare identification, secure messaging etc etc. All these impact hospital systems.
As far as the other things - such as messaging I believe Cerner is
active in all the key Hospital Standards Developers in the US (HL7,
ANSI and through that ISO etc) so they know what is coming down the
pike. They certainly do HL7.
They may be active in international Standards development, but that does
not guarantee that they have chosen the right horse.
What big bucks do we thing they will charge Vic Health to introduce any
Standards that may be resolved after the 'ink is dry on the contract'?
Maybe I'm cynical and maybe this has all been worked out.
