Hello Duncan
Can the scanner be directly connected to the network eg if a HP scanner,
use one of the Jetdirect series of print servers (though I have found that
functionality for scanning on the network may not be as full as printing
via the network), or better still source a printer with this built in

if you have a client server application, then you are going to get
reasonable speed running a client ( with xp ) at the remote site,
scanning and attaching documents.
we are moving more and more to thin clients with our bps and pracsoft
system, but will retain at least 2 xp workstations for doing this sort
of work.

Does anyone have a system working where a server can use a scanner at
a remote location?

We have 8 sets of rooms linked via managed VPN. Hence 7 sites use
terminal services to run our practice management software. It would
be more efficient workflow if staff could open a patients file via
terminal services, and scan directly into the file - this requires the
server to control the scanner that is connected to the workstation at
the remote site (TS is not smart enough to do this).

I googled and found www.remote-scan.com/thinclients

Any other suggestions ?
