I think it depends on what you are building. Eight IT PhDs! Wouldn't
that be a hoot?

As GPs we see ourselves as the foremost consumers and producers of
electronic medical information. We're so busy we can barely scratch
ourselves. We are trying to organise data to come pouring into our
computers to optimally manage an increasing load of increasingly complex
patients.

Viewing the medical IT scene from the far horizon of Goonellabah, it
seems to me that the HealthConnect model of a large centralised database
of medical data has been abandoned. Leaving data in large but local
repositories which will allow for remote querying and retrieval of data
is the preferred (webservices) model. This will suit hospitals and
larger medical conglomerates. It may be challenging for smaller GP
practices but like computerisation itself they will have to embrace it
to remain competitive.

None of this helps us now. For the moment we'll keep plugging away at
getting "better data in" and "easier data out". (Hmph. Try googling that
for a sense of déjà vue.)
