New Zealand

Only two weeks away now, the HINZ Conference and Exhibitions 2006
<http://www.2006.hinz.org.nz/> is offering several workshops and key
speakers that are relevant to those with an interest in healthcare
interoperability.

Workshops on Friday 11 August:

HL7 V2.4 messaging standards and CDA
Full Day Workshop led by Rene Spronk, an international expert in HL7
standards from the Netherlands

HL7 WORKSHOP FRIDAY 11TH AUGUST NZ is in the process of finalising the HL7
V2.4 messaging standards and implementation guides for electronic exchange
of “Discharge Summary, Status Report and Referral” (RSD) and
“Laboratory/Pathology and Radiology orders and reports”. While a number of
important milestones have been achieved, the migration of messaging
standards from V2.1 to V2.4 in the laboratory test reporting presents
significant challenges. The implementation of V2.4 messaging standards in
other areas represent uncharted territories. Internationally there are
growing interests in Hl7 V3 messaging standards and in particularly Clinical
Document Architecture (CDA). To help explain the use of HL7 V2.4 messaging
standards and implementation guides for electronic exchanges of in RSD and
Laboratory/Pathology and Radiology orders and reports. HL7 NZ presents this
one-day technical workshop, as part of the HINZ 2006 programme, on these
critically important topics.

ACHIEVING SEMANTIC INTEROPERABILITY: THE openEHR (CEN 13606) APPROACH
Half Day Workshop led by Sam Heard, CEO Ocean Informatics

Covers the experience of developing products based on the openEHR
specifications. These are aimed at achieving standards-based repositories
that can be used by vendors and others under GPL or proprietary licensing.
The workshop leading will discuss the advantages and challenges of this
comprehensive and ‘future-proof’ approach which enables single source
specifications (archetypes) and mappings (e.g. HL7 to openEHR). Key data
quality issues including the use of comprehensive terminologies such as
SNOMED-CT will be discussed.
