I take the view if the Pharmacy Guild was getting in the Government's way on
this...they would get squashed legally...take it from me if they disagree
with you, you get to know about it big time!

David,

It is true that the guild would be unlikely to take on the government
in a patent fight. From memory, at the time they insisted that they
were not interested in asserting the rights against any government
program. But I'd be more concerned about the negative effects it
might have on independant software companies - for instance, what
about if Medical Objects wanted to extend their program to allow
shared medical records (say some limited shared info for Team
Care arrangments with messages going back and forth between
the providers).. might they fall within the sights of the
guilds crappy patent? Is it fair on them to have to put the money
up to show how invalid the patent is?

I still think the way forward with electronic health stuff is going
to come from small companies doing innovative things ala
Argus, MO etc (rather than any blessed government program
like HealthConnect) and its they who have the most to fear from a
fight with the guild.

It would be nice for the guild to state what their intentions are
with the patent.

Andrew
