Greetings,
I am seeking an electronic list of all the divisions in Australia,
according to the post codes they represent. I have no interest in other
address details.
Has anybody such a collated list?
- Division name
- All postcodes that belong to this division
- The states (based on postcodes as per #2) that this divison services
(Optional)
I need this information to enhance a web-based searching facility.
Many thanks.
Andrew,
Be quick about getting the data off the DoHA site and store it
elsewhere, as it may not be there much longer.
Two complications have arisen. About three weeks ago we got a letter and
a map from DoHA, telling us they'd decided to no longer use post code
areas to determine division boundaries, but to use census collection areas.
We now have a low resolution map, which shows some apparent alterations,
but it isn't easy to interpret the actual boundaries from it. The other
problem is that getting a list of census collection areas seems nearly
impossible.
We had no fore-knowledge of this change, nor do we welcome it, because
it will make daily operations more difficult. Up till now, we've had a
list of our postcodes on the wall so that GPs, new to the area, could be
told if their new practice was in or out of our area, simply by asking
them the postcode of the location.
Now this is much harder. We've expressed our concerns to DoHA and are
waiting a reply. The new boundaries appear to deviate from the old in a
couple of significant areas, which isn't likely to help us much.
All Divisions have members who practice 'out of area', and who, in NSW,
have to be treated exactly the same as 'in area' members, due to NSW
company law. Many of these members have 'historical' links going back a
long time. Some previously 'in area' members' may become 'out of area',
which has implications for our funding as it is based on 'in area' numbers.
How much this complicates matters remains to be seen.
