But isn't it our experience that Windows, MD2 and MYOB all have huge
market share? Doesn't that mean there are lots and lots of suckers in
our profession?
I use Mac OSX, Genie and Moneyworks Cashbook.
Nothing's perfect, but I find each of these much easier to use than the
competition. Even without the horrible cost of training to prove to
myself that I was not cut out for MYOB, I'm sure Moneyworks cost less
to buy than MYOB and has had free upgrades for several years to keep up
with changes to GST categories etc. It is intuitive and still lets me
export to my accountant, who mainly uses MYOB, but sees that he and I
will be be happier if I steer clear of it. I use MD2 2 days a week,
where I am an employee and Genie where I am in charge.
What really bugs me is to see a local division offer "Free IT training
for all practice staff!" I'm sure the staff who run the training do
get paid - just not by the individual GP or practice, so of course,
it's not free. They go on to say, "To support our members the Division
is offering free in practice Medical Director Updates AND Microsoft
Offices updates here @ the Division. The MD sessions can be held over
lunch or evening sessions, this allows for the activities to be
specific and tailored directly to the needs of each individual
practice. It is also a great opportunity for all staff to develop or
reinforce the practice usage protocols of your IT system."
But they don't warn about the weaknesses of MD2 or the likely added
hardware and licence costs...
