Horst's links are very good. As he recommends, start in the wikipedia for some basic concepts and then try some light reading at why_the_lucky_stiff.

If you can't wait for elx, start on line (http://safari.oreilly.com/0596101325) with an O'Reilly account.

I'd also recommend adding useful links to your delicious account. It's nice to drop onto the Rails at a web browser near you. You can also peer over the electronic shoulder of the person next to you and see what their reading.
