I hope that the pathology process and industry retains this efficiency and
choice.  I hear that there are some changes in the wind, so I hope that
there is no disruption to this working system.  It all seems to be working
fine from my point of view.

Dear Dr John, thank you once again for your prompt diagnostic work
and handling of my test results. I was dismayed however when I recieved
the bill from the pathology lab to see a "message tax" of $5 added to
the cost of my test. It seems that this charge is imposed by a third party
and is hence not covered by any rebates from Medicare. I have ordered
tests for the past few years and this is a new occurrence. A friend who
works in the health industry has said that much progress has been
made in achieving 100% computerisation of all medical communication,
but has mentioned that a short sighted decision in 2006 to centralise
all communication through a monopoly supplier has left the whole industry
at the mercy of this one vendor. Is there any chance you could go back
to using paper forms?
