Au contraire.

Once you have a robust self-maintaining operating system that *encourages* and 
facilitates automatizing tasks, people start discovering that computers can 
be a very useful time saving tool rather than the time wasting glorified type 
writer they are used to.

They discover scripting, they can't do it themselves - they hire a programmer 
to get work done. Instead of shoving your bundles of money down the 
insatiable throats of the shrink wrap crapulates for software that does not 
solve theproblems you never had before, you pay individual software 
craftspeople to solve your problems for you in a lasting way.

Free software generates work for individual IT people and saves work for end 
users. Shrinkwrap crapware from lock-in vendors generates predicatble revenue 
for the vendors and little else but problems and costs for the end users.
