Our Division sought clarification via PIP hotline ...

Question: The Security Self Assessment requires practices to use
encryption for the electronic
transfer of patient information and/or clinical data. Does this mean GPs
must not receive unencrypted
patient information or clinical data?

Answer: To be eligible for the PIP IM/IT Incentive, practices are
required to use encryption to send
electronic patient information and/or clinical data.
Question 10 of the application form asks 'does the practice ....... use
encryption for the electronic
transfer of all patient information and clinical data'. Question 10 does
not seek information about how
other health services send clinical data to the PIP practice as this may
be outside the control of the
PIP practice.
